Treasure- Gauthuk-Ring of Fire Resistance
An exiled cultist and his kobold minions are spotted searching long-forgotten ruins in the Dragonspire Mountains. Rumors say he looks for a precious gift to give to a fearsome dragon that dwells there. What he hopes to attain with his gift is unknown, but can’t be good for the citizens of Phlan.
The party followed a posting for a wanted man by the name of Spernik to Mantor’s Library. After speaking with the Lord Sage Opanrael they learned that two scribes by the names of Spernik and Tibeem had been caught sneaking out of the Lord Sage’s office. They made a run for it but Spernik escaped. They searched their rooms afterwards and discovered a sack with two rare books. When they went to replace them they had already placed duplicate forgeries in their place. Tibeem was arrested for murdering a guard during the twos escape. The Lord Sage believes more books were taken and commissioned the party to recover them.
Upon arriving at Stojanow Gate, the local prison, Tibeem had already been hung for his crimes as justice in Phlan is dispensed quickly usually without trial. After asking around town they discovered a crude map leading out to foothills of the Dragonspine Mountains.
After a two day journey they discovered a ancient temple marked by standing stones. Inside was a group of ravenous zombies and ghouls. After cleaning out the entry way they moved into the main chamber to discover Spernik leading a band of kobolds searching adjoining rooms. The party quickly dealt with Spernik and knocked him out to be dealt with later. They searched the adjoining rooms and round in each a relic which formed a key for the main door resembling a dragons scale.
Upon opening the door they found this shrine guarded by Scalebinder Skovac a undead priest of the Circle of the Scale who once used this temple. The party didn’t hesitate and destroyed the wight and his zombies quickly. They removed the relic from the shrine and took it with them.
Returning to Phlan they found that Tibeem and Spernik were both working for the Cult of the Dragon and were sent to recover the relic believing it had the ability to enslave dragons which turned out two be false. He begged for mercy since he feared the cult more than imprisonment in Phlan. They handed him over to the Black Fist guards to face trial at Stojanow
